OFF THE RECORD

[Sound Map + Podcast + Original composition, 2021]

[Leer en castellano]

Off the record is a sound research work that digs into the sound waste of a recording studio & music venue.

Made in collaboration with The Bass Valley in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), we registered the sound landscape of this place and focused in those sounds which will never be in the final product (album, concert...). A work which pays attention to the ignored frequencies, the creative process, the fun, the frustration. To what happens outside the cabin, in the hallways, in the rooms, in the breaks...

As a result of this research, which Marco Mirone and I develope in the following podcast, I elaborated a sound map, and composed an original music piece sampling the sound waste which can be heard at the end of the it.

In my sound cartography, the sound waste of The Bass Valley is graphically represented from three of its most representative spaces:

·The recording room (represented with a circle -rec-)
·The resting room (represented with a square -stop-)
·The concert hall (represented with a triangle -play-).

Within the spaces are the sound residues described in the legend, which in turn integrate the original material used in the composition assigned to our work.
