ENTRE: Vacíos, Paisajes y Metamorfosis
ENTRE
[Sound Installation for multiple speakers, 2022]
ENTRE was an exhibition composed by two immersive sound installations, which took place at Convent de Sant Agustí (Barcelona) on February 2 and 3, 2022. Curated by the north american artist Barbara Held, the exhibition encouraged the participating sound artists to explore the dichotomy reality/fiction.
In the upper floor a divine, unreal space is exposed, where the artists Anna Gatz, Noela Covelo and Renan Araujo played with the natural reverberation of the Convent's architecture, being unable to identify the source of the sound
In the lower floor, the sound installation made by Ona Galo, Roberto Hernández and me, aims to recreate the sensations of progressively entering the sea: From the surface to the most abysmal depth.
For our installation, a continuous source of sound programed in MAX triggers randomly diverse maritime sound samples, some of them synthesized by us and others recorded from a real source. Thus, the listener wonders:
Is a wave heard or is it white noise? The flapping of a seagull's wings or an emulation? Air through the pipes of an underwater installation? Radio interference? Or a synthesizer?
As a fun fact, in the last room of our installation, there was already a graffiti in one of the walls which posed the question: "What is real?"
